MAINTENANCE WORKER HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE (Solid Waste & Recycling): Collects, handles, stores, bulk sorts, packages, transports and disposes of hazardous materials in conformance with all pertinent federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Thus, must maintain a current working knowledge of applicable laws/regulations pertaining to household hazardous and universal wastes. Maintains regulatory files such as manifests, non-hazardous material bills of lading, reports submitted to regulatory agencies, asbestos disposal records, permits, notifications, logs, or other documents.



  • Two years experience involving identifying, collecting, packaging and disposing of household hazardous and universal waste materials
  • The following trainings and certifications must be obtained within 6 months of hire:         
  1. 24-hour Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER)
  2. DOT 3-day Hazardous Materials Training
  3. Forklift permit
  4. Annual Respirator Program evaluation/certification
  • Must be medically qualified to wear a respirator
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license


All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation.
