ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT (Public Defender’s Office – Colleton County/Walterboro):  Performs complex, clerical functions associated with court operations and /or legal office operations, including preparing and typing various documents, legal documents, court orders, motions and subpoenas. Is proficient in data entry, provides clerical and administrative support to the Public Defenders and staff. Prepares correspondence and maintains related files as required by South Carolina Commission on Indigent Defense and the 14th Circuit Public Defender’s office. Interacts with public in person or over the telephone to answer questions, provide information or resolve problems. Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED, Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • Three years of clerical experience, preferably in a legal environment.
  • Must be able to type 40 cwpm. Applicants must submit official monitored typing test results from a SC Department of Employment & Workforce office (SCDEW) or a state employment office if not in South Carolina. The Beaufort County office of SCDEW is located on Castle Rock Road in Beaufort. No other typing tests are acceptable.
  • Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word and the maintenance and operation of a computer database.

 

All applicants tentatively selected for a position with Beaufort County Council will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for the illegal use of drugs and to a background check prior to appointment. Employment is contingent upon clearing both the drug screening and background investigation. EOE.
