Located on the second floor of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, the Traffic Management Center employs a dedicated staff trained to monitor and respond to the changing traffic conditions within Beaufort County. The staff works closely with state and local law enforcement, as well as the State Department of Transportation (SCDOT), traffic media, construction, and maintenance personnel, the Public Information Office and other agencies to provide you with accurate and timely information.
The center operates intelligent transportation system field devices to enhance safety, and monitors traffic through the use of 76 Closed Circuit TV Cameras mounted on roadside concrete poles within Beaufort County. In addition, the Traffic Management Center operates four Dynamic Message System (DMS) Boards, eight fixed Highway Advisory Radios (HAR), and operates two portable HAR's to assist in disseminating information to Beaufort County motorists.
The most recent addition to Traffic Management, and in cooperation with the South Carolina Department of Transportation is the "511" System. This system allows you to call 511 anywhere in the State to find out current traffic conditions. We input current traffic conditions from the Traffic Management Center. We recommend that this service be used before leaving your home, and before getting behind the wheel of a vehicle. Using a cell phone while driving is not a safe practice, and is not recommended.
